Welcome to the Caribe Volleyball Club

The Caribe Beach Volleyball Club is a community driven program focused on introducing, teaching and developing the sport of Olympic Beach Volleyball to the South Caribbean community in Costa Rica.

Through proper coaching, community involvement & support and foreign & local sponsorship, the Caribe Volleyball Club is able to provide classes and competitive opportunities to the youth of Puerto Viejo.

To date, we have funnelled 4 athletes (Yulius, Sangye, Caleb & Mikey) through the Costa Rican National Team Pipeline with athletes competing in events throughout South & Central America, Europe, Canada and the United States.

Our recreational programs frequently attract over 50 young athletes PER CLASS on 4 professional level courts at Cocles Beach, just south of the town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

Caribe Beach Volleyball Club was founded in 2016 by Chris Lopez (former junior assistant coach with the Canadian National Beach Volleyball Team and Strength Coach for the Volleyball Canada Centre for Excellence).

“We started with 2 bamboo poles and a cheap, recreational net. We showed up every Tuesday & Thursday at 4pm – rain or shine. Sometimes we had 7 kids, sometimes we would only have 4 (all of which were my children). The most important thing was for me to let the community know that we would be there, consistently, no matter what, by just showing up when we said we would.”

Chris Lopez, Club Founder

The club’s foundation is underpinned by the values of consistency, integrity and mentorship.

As each athlete passes through the ranks, they are required to mentor the younger generation in some capacity. That could be through coaching, running their own class for younger athletes, or developing a “big brother/big sister” relationship.

We require every athlete to give back to the community; to remember where they came from…

…and it’s through those values that we build FAMILY.
